Caring for one’s health, physical condition, and appearance is becoming the norm in today’s society. Both women and men are increasingly visiting beauty salons, hairdressers, or the increasingly popular barbers. Visits to tattoo parlors are no longer surprising, and aesthetic medicine procedures are becoming more and more common.

The spring and summer season is a time when many family events take place. First Communions, baptisms, and weddings are occasions during which both women and men want to look especially beautiful and well-groomed. Difficulties in securing appointments with a beautician or hairdresser often lead us to opt for ad hoc services at a place where appointments are simply available. But do we ever stop to consider the hygiene standards at the salon we’ve chosen in a rush?

Standards that should apply in beauty salons

Adhering to hygiene principles that are vital for maintaining health improves the quality of services and maximizes safety for both us—the customers—and the staff.

In tattoo parlors, where we deal with tissue penetration, hygiene standards, tool sterilization, and maintaining cleanliness seem obvious. Sterilizing tools in autoclaves (devices that use high-pressure steam) should be a daily practice, including in beauty salons and at the hairdresser’s (scissors).

Another indicator of high standards of customer safety in beauty salons is the use of personal protective equipment, disposable tools and textiles, and adherence to hygiene procedures. Their employees should wash and disinfect their hands before starting and after finishing each treatment or, for example, a hair service.

It’s also worth noting whether the salon disinfects tools, equipment, and the service area after each client. The barber chair and shelves where care products or work tools are stored should be disinfected before the next client. In this case, we can be sure that the place we are in has implemented best practices regarding cleanliness, hygiene, and sterility to ensure safety for both its employees and clients.

Do you pay attention to whether the salon has certificates confirming adherence to safety protocols, such as #bezpiecznysalon? This also says a lot about the place you’re visiting.

When entering a salon or treatment room, let’s pay attention to these few important details. If the above procedures are followed, we can be sure that the service will be performed to the highest safety standards, and we can simply relax and enjoy the service.
